The Ashby Memory Method (AMM) is based on the research of the late Dr. Mira Ashby who received the Order of Canada for her work with brain injury rehabilitation. Her work focused upon those who suffered a traumatic brain injury where a portion of the brain is instantly affected and no longer functions properly. The rest of the brain can be retrained to compensate for the affected area.
The principles of Dr. Ashby’s neuro-rehab research also apply to someone who suffers memory loss due to illness such as dementia. Instead of simply treating the illness as a degenerative disease, it can be treated as a slowly developing brain injury.
The principles of the AMM methodology have been presented at international conferences and seminars including the highly esteemed National Conference of the Alzheimer Society of Canada (Toronto), and the Alzheimer’s Association’s International Conference on Alzheimer’s Disease (Chicago).
